Kapas Island, Malaysia
** we had our camera nicked in KL so lost most of the pics from Kapas **
Kapas was very different to the Perhentians, very laid back with not much to do but lounge on the beach or snorkel off the shore – so that’s what we did for several days.
We stayed at Captain’s Longhouse, we had our own room but they also have dorm beds all with shared bathrooms, it’s a real longhouse so we all sleep under the same roof, it was nice as it backed onto jungle so there’s lots of wild life from big monitor lizards to huge fruit bats who we could hear screeching at night.
The set up there with food was chilled out to say the least, you could help yourself to drinks from the kitchen and if you felt like it you could cook dinner for everyone! The communal feel of the place was good, each evening everyone ate together although one evening it was sausage and mash which wasn’t fantastic, breakfast however was another matter, Loget, the guy running the place makes the best banana pancakes ever!
Our end of the beach was quite secluded so was quiet so ideal for sunbathing and swimming, there are quite a few beaches further along the coast and they’re handily linked with staircaes so we explored a few and found some nice snorkelling points.
All in all Kapas was really relaxing and we could see how some people ended up staying longer than planned, we however were heading to yet another island, Tioman!
